While you can’t always guarantee that your boiler won’t break down, there are things you can do to help prevent it from happening. Below we have listed 5 easy ways you can look after your boiler to keep it running smoothly, especially during the winter.
Keep your heating on during the Summer
A lot of households tend to turn their heating off during the summer to cut costs and keep from becoming too hot, it’s a good way to save energy but turning it off for an extended period of time can cause problems when it is turned back on. To prevent this from happening, switch it on a few times every month for short bursts of time.
Prevent frozen pipes
Frozen pipes can cause significant damage not only to your heating system but also the home they burst in. To prevent this from happening, set your thermostat to low whilst you’re out, or so that it switches on occasionally – but not too hot. You can also add insulation which can be purchased from any DIY shop.
Powerflush your Central Heating System
By powerflushing your system, you are guaranteed the removal of sludge and rust throughout your whole system. A cleaning solution is distributed and doesn’t take long to do at all, depending on the size and density of the deposits within the system.
Always check your pressure
If the gauge in your boiler is reading low, then it won’t run as effectively as it should be doing. Check your boilers operating instructions to find the correct settings for your boiler, these instructions will also show you how to pressurise your system step by step so it’s working correctly. If you can’t find the instructions and the gauge is still low, contact your boiler provider for more information and advice.
