Older boilers tend be less efficient and cost a lot more to run than newer boilers with condensing technology. If your boiler is older, you could be paying more in energy bills than your boiler is providing in heat. This isn’t a good deal for you as the homeowner. However, a new boiler is a significant investment. So how do you know if you should upgrade? Here at K and M Maintenance, we are boiler experts. As a result, we have produced this boiler upgrade guide.
Condensing Technology
By re-using the energy they produce, combination boilers are extremely efficient. In fact, they can be twice as effective as an older boiler. As a result, they need a lot less fuel to produce the same amount of energy. This means that you will save on your heating bills.
In addition, this efficiency has meant that all new boilers are now being created with condensing technology. This is better for the environment, and your bank card.
Types of boiler
In addition to new technology within the boiler, new boilers are available most often in one of two types:
The heat only boiler. This is an incredibly efficient boiler type for only heating water. This will feed the central heating system water supply as well as the hot water for your taps. In a large property, this is the most effective boiler type to provide simultaneous heating and hot water to multiple destinations, i.e. multiple bathrooms. However, this type of boiler does require more space and more pipework, as you will need a hot water cylinder as well as the boiler.
The combination boiler. This type of boiler only heats up water when it is needed. This means that you can only get hot water from one tap at a time, but it is also incredibly efficient. The technology within the combination boiler allows the water to be heated as it passes through the boiler. As a result, it doesn’t require any additional tanks for storage.
In summary
Condensing technology and new boiler types are both good reasons why you need a boiler upgrade. Not only can you enjoy hot water and heating instantaneously, you will save on heating bills. Why not contact us at K and M Maintenance today? We can help guide you through the new boiler process.
