Here at K and M Maintenance, we talk to many customers who are unsure about the three different boiler types. To help make things less complicated, we have produced this guide to help you choose the right boiler for your home.
A Conventional Boiler
Otherwise known as a heat only boiler, the conventional boiler is fairly common. This type of boiler makes use of a hot water cylinder which is usually in the upstairs of the home. As a result, the system is gravity fed, maintaining a good pressure.
This type of boiler has a programmer. This allows you to control your heating and hot water. New technological advances mean that this is now also possible from your phone. A NEST smart system can be set up to help maintain your homes temperatures.
System Boiler
A system boiler is not a gravity fed boiler. Instead, it is supported by the pressure behind it. Again it is often located in the loft, but it takes up a lot less room than a conventional boiler. This is because everything is inside a sealed system and so there is no need for a hot water cylinder.
Combination Boiler
Highly efficient the combination boiler provides heating for water and the central heating system. This is often selected as the best boiler for the home, and as a result, more than half of the new boilers installed in Britain annually are combination boilers.
The popularity of the combination boiler comes down to its advantages.
Firstly, hot water on demand is a great advantage. The boiler will never run out of hot water, and you wont need to wait for it to be reheated.
In addition, the combination boiler saves a lot of space. This is because it needs no storage cylinder and no hot water cylinder.
In summary
The three types of boiler are quite different. If you need more help and advice to choose the right boiler for your home, or if you would like a new boiler to be installed, contact us at K and M Maintenance today.
