While we have all been enjoying the recent heatwave, there hasn’t been much need to test our boilers or central heating systems. But over the summer months, when the boiler isn’t in use, is a great time to test it, and look after it. After all, it won’t be too long until winter is drawing in, and a nice blast of central heating will be more than welcome. So what should you do to keep your boiler ticking over this summer? Well, here at K and M Maintenance, we are Preston’s leading gas and electrical experts. And we work with domestic and commercial boilers around the North West Region. As a result, we have produced this guide to looking after your boiler this summer.
Run your boiler once a month
If your boiler is left off for the entire summer, except from to heat water of course, then it can become dusty. Leaving your boiler idle for long periods of time allows dust and debris to settle on internal components and as a result, you could be left with a blockage or connection issue. This can interfere with the normal functioning and performance of your boiler in the long run, and you could end up with costly repair bills. As a result, we recommend switching your heating on for an hour or two, once a month at the very least. Just to keep the system ticking over.
Boiler servicing
Servicing your boiler is an important part of boiler maintenance, but did you know that summer can be one of the best times to have your boiler serviced? This is mainly because if any issues are uncovered, it is much less stressful to repair the boiler during the summer months than it is during winter when you will be relying on it multiple times a day.
