All boilers will need replacing eventually. But how do you know when time has run out for your boiler and you need a new boiler installation? Are there any signs to look out for? Here at K and M Maintenance we are Preston based boiler experts. As a result, we have produced this guide to the 3 signs that your boiler needs replacing.
Sign 1: The boiler flame burns yellow
A boiler with a yellow pilot light indicates that the flame is now burning yellow, instead of blue. This is not a good sign. In fact, it could indicate that your boiler is not burning correctly, and is in fact producing a toxic gas.
Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas that is difficult to detect without the right equipment. As a result, it is potentially lethal!
If you notice signs of:
- nausea
- dizziness
- tiredness
- or shortness of breath
in anyone within your household, you should evacuate your home and seek medical attention.
Sign 2: The boiler is more than 15 years old
15 years is a good lifespan for a boiler, although they can last for longer if they are serviced regularly and repaired at the first sign of trouble. However, if your boiler is more than 15 years old you should start saving for a new boiler. This is because a new boiler will be more up to date with new technology, which will make it more energy efficient and functional. This means that even if your old boiler is still working, you could stand to save money on bills by installing a new, more modern boiler.
Sign 3: The boiler is rated poorly
Energy efficiency in boilers is rated from A to G. On this scale, G is the lowest and means that the boiler is less than 70% efficient, while A is the highest at above 90%. These ratings have not been in full use for a lengthy period of time, and it is likely that any new boiler you purchase will be more energy efficient. As a result, you will save money on your energy bills. In fact, this can be over £300 a year.
